Girls' Softball Program
West Side and East Side Little League have been playing softball together under a combined charter for almost two decades. This means that any girl who lives or goes to school within the boundaries for either West Side LL or East Side LL are automatically part of the combined program. West Side offers girls league ages 5 to 16 the opportunity to play softball for the spring season with opportunities for additional team play in the fall and winter clinics. Our goals are player development and providing a fun experience at all levels of play. For all divisions (except tee ball), we play a District 28 league schedule with the opportunity for year end league and All-star tournament play for our Minors, Majors, and Juniors players. If you have questions concerning our softball program, please email our Vice-President of Softball at email@example.com.
At this time, West Side offers the following softball-related programs:
Tee Ball Division - For girls and boys league ages 5-6
Tee Ball is for boys and girls 5-6 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Players hit a ball off a batting tee. Rules of the game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. There is no scoring, all players bat, and positions are rotated.
Rookie Division - For girls league ages 6-8
At this level, we emphasize the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and base running. Player commitment generally is one practice or game during the week and one practice or game on the weekend. For games, players will hit off coach pitching. Later in the season, pitching by the players is introduced on a modified basis.
Minor Division - For girls league ages 8-10
For this division, we continue to emphasize development of fundamentals in the context of game play. Modified pitching rules are used in games (including coach pitching) with a greater emphasis on player pitching. At this age, the girls are introduced to more competitive play with a year end regular season tournament. Players also are eligible for District-wide Little League sponsored All-star tournament play. Player commitment generally is one to two practices or games during the week and one game on the weekend.
Majors Division - For girls league ages 11-12
This is a higher level of District-wide softball which includes full-time player pitching with a year end regular season tournament. Again, players are eligible for District-wide Little League sponsored All-star tournament play. Player commitment generally is one to two practices or games during the week and one game on the weekend.
Junior/Senior Division - For girls league ages 13-16 (click here to determine league age)
The District wide format continues for this division. Teams at this level may occasionally play games outside of District 28. Player commitment generally is one to two practices or games during the week and one game on the weekend.
